A wonderful French 19th century patinated bronze statue.

The statue is raised by a rectangular ormulu base above a decorative ground designed base. Above is a beautiful half naked maiden draped in a wonderfully executed flowring fabric.

The lovely maiden represents Venus asleep on a detailed tree truck. She wears her hair in an updo her head is resting on her forearm.

All original patina throughout.

Lucas Madrassi was a French artist from Italian descent born on the 8th of June 1848 in Tricesimo.

He studied at the famous Ecole de Beaux Arts de Paris and later joigned the worshop of Carrier-Belleuse.
His work was exposed at the fair of la société des artiste français where he won numerous medals (1881, 1882, 1883 and 1885).
