An impressive and high quality French late 19th century bronze statue after Henri-Louis Levasseur intitled « Gloire au travail » (the glory at work).
The statue is raised by a rectangular groundlike base with the artist signature stamped « J.P.1131’ » with the « société des bronzes de Paris » seal and a plaquette inscribed « Gloire au Travail/Salon des Beaux Arts ».
The statue depicts the allegory of work and is of a lovely maiden dressed in a classical fashion with her hair tied in a French not.
She is holding a torch in her right hand and a large feather in her left hand as if to symbolise the clarity of knowledge.
Her gaze is down towards the young man sitting on anvil besides her, his face is resting on one hand whilst holding a hammer with the other.

Wonderfully executed with exquisite attention to detail and beautiful facial expressions.
All original light brown patina throughout.
