A 1st Empire Period (1804 - 1815) Pair of Wall - Lights.

A pair of 1st Empire period four lights gilt and brown patina bronze scones. The base in shape of gain representing a winged woman standing on a globe and holding in its hands the lights in shape of torches. The scones are decorated with lion's heads, mascarons, griffons and laurel leaves. Very nice original agate and mercury mat and burnished gilding. The wall lights have not been drilled for electricity in order to respect their period integrity. Similar model is at the Rambouillet castle (beforehand at the Petit and Grand Trianons in Versailles, see the book Marie-France Dupuy-Baylet, L'Heure Le Feu La Lumière - Les Bronzes du Mobilier National 1800 - 1870, Edition Faton, 2010, p. 60. France. 19th century.
